Martha Whitesides grew up in a house divided in the heart of college basketball promise land: North Carolina. A life-long Tar Heel fan, she completed her undergraduate degree at UNC-Chapel Hill, a BA in Political Science. But, she’s about to flip over to the dark side for an MA from Duke Divinity. Rest assured, she will always say “Go Heels!”
A life-long Episcopalian, Martha found her passion for ministry with teens and tweens first through childhood summer camp, where she eventually worked for six years. Working for the church, though, that was scary. Taking the leap soon after college, it took less than a year to realize it was more than a job, it was her calling. She loves exploring the intersection of faith and popular culture, as well as tactile and tangible practices that can connect children, youth, and their families to faith at home and in their daily lives.
After six years at Christ Church in Raleigh, Martha joined Ministry Architects to help connect hungry churches and candidates for incredible relational ministry partnerships. She lives in Wilmington with her husband Tucker and fluffy golden doodle Cotter. He has been formally blessed twice in a Blessing of the Animals service, and might say Christ Church is his favorite place to play. In her spare time, Martha enjoys cooking, needlepointing, and all things Taylor Swift.
